AND GOD WILL GENEROUSLY PROVIDE ALL YOU NEED. THEN YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE EVERYTHING YOU NEED AND PLENTY LEFT OVER TO SHARE WITH OTHERS. 2 CORINTHIANS 9:8 NLT
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Children are gifts from God. Every child is uniquely created and with a God given purpose. Admitting a child to our home is bitter sweet but we choose to focus on the opportunty to love, nurture and raise each child placed in our care with the prospects of a fresh start, great education and a future with possibilities.
APCM International Volunteer Program
APCM, a German NPO, partners with iKhaya to expose young adults to community work, social responsibility and cross culture experiences through the 1 year volunteer program supported by the German Federation. We are delighted to be a part of investing in future generations through this program and to work with young ladies who serve God and are His hands and feet in the mission field. It is jointly beneficial in that the youth grow through this exprience while we have the extra help and the kids get more one on oe attention and interation. It's totally a win win situation!
Creativity Time
“Crafts and art are a lovely platform for social interactions, a safe place to build friendships and improve communication all while stimulating the creative brain and allowing each child to express themselves individually. This project included teamwork too as the kids only decorated a few shirts between them.
Fantasy Play
Dress-up play allows anyone to dream, hope, and use their imagination. It gives kids permission to pretend to be someone or something different and extraordinary that reflects their personality and current interests and promotes more independence by allowing kids to practice self-care skills. Costumes require kids to put on and take off accessories and articles of clothing. Learning to fasten buttons, velcro, zippers and snaps can be frustrating, but it can be a lot more motivating to learn them when they are a necessary requirement to transform into your favorite superhero! When “in character” kids role play to imitate the character’s mannerisms and may even create their own special traits and themes, which encourages kids to “think outside of the box,” practice different emotions, and practice their language skills.
Skate Park
Our older kids enjoyed an outing to the beach and skate park. It was a fun filled day with a braai for lunch. We have a couple boys who have set there targets on being able to skate down a slope without falling off. So much practice is required to achieve their goals! In spite of all the associated dangers, skateboarding does wonders for the body and mind in the long run and so we encourage all our kids to freely enjoy the boards. Skateboarding not only benefits the hands and legs, but also improves decision-making skills that come in handy in other areas of life. As a one-person game, skateboarders have to rely on their own set of skills to succeed, and this mentality helps build confidence and trust in one'sinstincts. The biggest fear while skateboarding is losing control while doing a stunt. Hence every stunt requires countless hours of practice.. This ability of not giving up, and having a calm and focused mind is an extremely beneficial life skill. The art of skateboarding is built on balance, but not everyone is born with it. Regular practice eventually improves balance as the core muscles become stronger.
Physical Excercise
Most kids these days are glued to smartphones, tablets and other gadgets. Exposing children to endless hours of screen time cane negatively affect their mental, physical and psychological health. Being out in the sun exposes children to fresh air and lots of sunshine.
This increases the amount of vitamin D their bones receive which is vital for good bone and muscle health. So, at iKhaya, we encourage plenty outdoor activities and games which are not only fun, but also have health and social benefits. Social interactions help kids gain a sense of freedom and confidence too and sports improve one's focus and attention span. Outdoor activities which involve throwing, jumping, running and catching, help in developing a child’s motor skills faster, improves their coordination, alertness and judgment.
Dear Friends
This year is fast drawing to a close. So much is and has been going on that the year has simply flown by. We are hosting our AGM on 8 November, gearing up for our Christmas and New Year Celebrations and getting 15 learners ready for the new school year starting in January. If you feel lead to support any of these activities, we'd love to hear from you!
We are loving having the new German volunteers with us! They have slotted right in as part of the team and are building relationally with both the staff and kids quickly. They inspire fun and energy into each day and get the kids busy with various creative, sporty, educational and musical activities.
To all our sponsors and supporters, we appreciate every gift and contribution that keeps the home fires burning and the wheels turning. We are so blessed to have you on board. Thank you!
To those who have a heart for the broken, traumatised and vulnerable, continue to pray for the many in our community and in our home, who need a revelation and healing touch from our Heavenly Father. He is our Healer!
Isaiah 53:5 NIV "But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed."
