Magdalena Scheck

Hi there!

I'm Lela, also known as Mags or Magdalena :)

I don’t even know where to begin, because the 3 months I volunteered at iKhaya changed me a lot.

My dream had always been to volunteer somewhere in Africa and experience the different culture, but most importantly, I wanted to work with children.

During my time at iKhaya LikaBaba, I experienced personal growth and learned valuable lessons about working with children, understanding myself better, and appreciating the importance of a loving community - including the staff members, fellow volunteers, and precious children as well as in the Solid Ground Church community.

Not only did caring for the babies and assisting in the ECD program enrich my life, but taking on responsibilities like driving, collecting donations, and navigating a completely new environment helped me discover inner strength. The warm culture and loving environment at iKhaya and Solid Ground have left a lasting mark on my heart.

What touched me most deeply was discovering the beautiful presence of faith throughout daily life there. Seeing how belief in God brings hope and joy to the community impacted my own spiritual journey. I feel truly blessed to have witnessed and experienced this firsthand.

Never once did I doubt my decision to come to iKhaya for volunteering! From the moment I arrived, despite not knowing anyone beforehand, it immediately felt like a second home.

I thank God for leading me to this incredible place where I've grown not just as a volunteer, but as a person of faith. I am forever grateful for this experience that has shaped both my heart and spirit.
