Isaiah 1: 17 "Learn to do good. Seek justice. Help the oppressed. Defend the cause of orphans. Fight for the rights of widows".

A Work Of Love

AWOL (A Work Of Love) is an annual event where approximately 200 school going teenagers camp in Empangeni and make a difference in their community. Over the years, AWOL has invested 20 351 community service hours through a total of 838 teen campers. These teens will share God's love in the community of Empangeni, Richards Bay and surrounding areas by tackling various projects/outreaches that are organised and run by the local churches. iKhaya benefited from the these outreach projects. Teens washed windows, played games with kids and went on walks around the perimeter of our property. Loads of funs was had by teens, leaders and our kiddos.

Holiday Program

Our Winter School holidays were 3 weeks. That means either 3 weeks of mischief or 3 weeks of fun and passive learning. We chose the latter! We ran an informal program that included crafts, sports, games, bike riding outdoor activities like walks and picnics too. The little kids need more supervision and as our older kids mature we see them taking on the role of leader and helper as they assist the toddlers with their crafts.

Farewell Party

Jenny and Sarah arranged party games and treats to say goodbye to us all. Their 11 month stay simply flew by in the blink of an eye. We are already missing them dearly and the kids remain in contact via whatsapp calls. Technology in this instance is a blessing beyong measure.

Mandela Day

Time to celebrate and share. 67 minutes to commemorate the 67 years Mandela spent as a freedom activist. Thanks to all the companies and staff who showered us with the much appreciated and needed groceries, cleaning materials, baby goodies and your time. Our bicycles had a service and some had an overhaul. What a full day of abundance and love. We are truly grateful.

Blessed by a Generous Community

Our driveway was taking strain from the bout of storms earlier this year. The surface was irregular and full of grooves caused from the errosion. Lafarge came to the rescue and graded the surface. What a difference it has made. Moffatt Optical provided two kids wearing glasses with free eye tests and brand new specs. Much to their delight the two youngsters were allowed to choose their own frames and are super proud of their new specs.
Sanlam Centre hosted us at the kids entertainment area too during the holidays. Our kids had such a blast and enjoyed getting out too. We are truly part of a great community who partner with us, making our task and role in raising the kids a whole lot easier.
